Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Why did we keep going?

Just listened to the '94 Dew from a previous post and I was reminded again of why oh why, did I keep going to shows after Brent passed. I should have known it was time to call it quits and could have saved my money and a whole lotta brain cells. But damn it, I hear this and I am reminded of what I was searching for. This is why I kept going back and why I was chasing them to the next town. I was searching for diamonds in the rough, and this is has got to be one of them for sure! Jerry's voice is all in on this one. I know it is a '94 people, but do give this Dew a shot and tell me what you think. Thanks to wisconsindead for posting it.

This archive has provided us with a rare luxury, and that is the ability to go back and critique shows we attended with the click of a finger. Nobody really saw this technology coming (well a few people did) but that is besides the point. We don't have to listen to the whole show now, or try to find the jam part on our tapes. Now we can pick out the highlights of the last five years (or 20 for some folks here) of the band and bring ourselves back in time once again. Back when we were searching for diamonds like this. Just that one song or two to make the show you traversed to seem like it was all worth it. Hearing this made me glad it was not all done in vain now. This is what I was searching for back then, but rarely got. Yeah, there were few rare moments of bliss the last five years for me, but most of the show were average at best. But god-damn it there was nothing and there never will be anything like a GRATEFUL DEAD show!! There will be a day when not many people will be able to say that. Peace.

I have always found, to the amazement of many, the 7/9/95 show to be an enjoyable listen.

The So Many Roads is memorable.

With the age , and evident exhaustion in Jerry's voice, I don't know that there was ever a more poignant Black Muddy River. Most "heads" seem to find it unlistenable, but I find it very moving and return to it often.

Should have said "No more" in '84.
